Feldenkrais Method What is it? Developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, this method is a gentle series of small body movements designed to release stress and tension from the body. This can be done with or without the assistance of a practitioner. What does it do? The Feldenkrais Method involves re-educating the nervous system through a gentle contraction and relaxation of a muscle group. The basic idea is that the more you can gently go into a contraction the more the muscle will be able to “remember” what being relaxed is like. What can I expect? A gentle series of small movements usually performed on the floor. This therapy is about how to gain more awareness of your body through movement and motion. The goal is to experience and feel how your body contracts and relaxes. What are the reported benefits? Relaxing, better coordination, easier movement, better feeling of being grounded, more energy How much does it cost? While there are practitioners, most people take a group workshop to learn Feldenkrais in a format not too unlike yoga. Tapes and books are available for home use. What kind of training does my Feldenkrais Practitioner have? The Feldenkrais guild certifies all the Feldenkrais practitioners. Practitioners go though a series of workshops over a period of years to become certified. They then can teach the method and do the hands-on Feldenkrais work. Recommended Reading List of Associations
