CranioSacral Therapy ArticleCraniosacral therapy is a very gentle hands on therapy. It was based from well established osteopathic principles that until the last 30 years weren't truly validated. However, research since then has begun to prove that CranioSacral is an extremely valuable resource for people's health and well being. Craniosacral focuses on releasing stress and tension from the fascial system of the body. This fascial system is connective tissue made up two different types of fiber, collagen and elastin. This connective tissue has been shown to hold strain and tension, particularly when injured or severly traumatized. Releasing that stress, tension and trauma is the goal behind cranio sacral. And the interesting thing about craniosacral is that's it's generally perfomed by a skilled practitioner with 5 grams or less pressure. (that's about the weight of a nickel). This helps ensure that the body does not get into a defensive mode and start to protect itself. By using such a light pressure, even highly stressed out bodies, will eventually begin to relax and soften. Consequently better circulation ensues and more often than not the person receiving the craniosacral session will report less pain and feeling immensely better. It's a totally different mechanism than massage. Craniosacral or Cranial Sacral (depending on how you spell it) focuses on fluid movement within the body to deteremine where those restrictions in the connective tissue. Then by gently holding and supporting those areas and allowing them to unwind, the body will begin to relax deeply in a way not experienced by most people. Craniosacral is truly a relaxing form of body therapy. It's light, gentle and extremely safe. If you have never had the opportunity of experiencing a cranio sacral session, then you're missing out on something that could potentially be life changing.
