Acupuncture

What is it?

Acupuncture is a health modality that uses needles to modify or clear out blockages or restrictions in the body’s energy system. It helps to restore a healthy energy flow in the body. Practitioners place needles in specific areas of the body which have been mapped out over centuries as places that respond to stimulation. Traditional acupuncture just uses needles and is thousands of years old. In our western society, many medical practitioners use needles that also contain a small current are applied. Americans make more than 5 million visits to acupuncturists each year.

What does it do?

Acupuncture stimulates certain points called acupuncture points, which are derived from meridians in the body. Meridians are lines of energy flow throughout the body. The major meridians are associated with a specific body organ.

What can I expect?

Considering the use of needles, Acupuncture, believe it or not is actually very relaxing. There is a release of endorphins in the body as a result of receiving acupuncture. For the most part, if done correctly, it is not painful.

Relaxing, helpful for a wide variety of health problems, better energy flow and balance

How much does it cost?

Acupuncture prices vary enormously depending on geographical location. In general, sessions run from $35 to $100 per session. Some insurance companies now reimburse for acupuncture use. The number of sessions varies, but usually more than one is required.

What kind of training does my acupuncturist have?

Practitioners of traditional acupuncture must go through a 3 year school to become certified to perform acupuncture.
